Sasmung’s Galaxy Beam, one of the company’s most unique handesets, is now available in the UK, albeit a little later than pre-orders had originally suggested. Previously shown off at Mobile World Congress, the Galaxy Beam is equipped with a 15-lumen projector that can be used to display HD images and video up to 50 feet wide. According to the FCC, the Samsung SCH-R940 Galaxy S Lightray 4G (yet another mouthful of a name) will be heading to MetroPCS. Virgin Mobile USA has today introduced their latest Android smartphone, the entry level PCD Chaser for just $79.99 without signing a contract. Marketing for the Chaser is aimed firmly at customers currently using a feature phone but wanting to make the jump to a smartphone. Intel has confirmed that its Atom chips for phones and tablets will eventually support Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. In an email to IDG News, a spokeswoman said that “Intel continues to work closely with Google to enable future versions of Android, including Jelly Bean, on our family of low power Atom processors.” Intel’s smartphone and tablet presence is minimal, but the first phones bearing its Medfield system-on-chip Atom processors launched this year, and more are expected in the coming quarters.
