Just minutes shy of their investors’ call for Q2’12 Google announced it made $12.21 billion in the second quarter of this year (that’d be the three month period ending June 30th). Their new-found ownership of Motorola brought in $1.25 billion of that with their “hardware and other” category, $843 million of which came from their mobile devices division. You would think that Apple would be the company requesting permission to use quotes from the late Steve Jobs as a means to sway jurors in deciding the ultimate fate of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1, but it’s the other way around. Verizon has just released a rundown of their earnings report for the second quarter of 2012, and things are looking pretty peachy for the wireless giant. Service revenues grew 7.3 percent to reach $15.8 billion, spurred along by the increasing use of smartphones on the network, which now account for 50 percent of all postpaid devices on Verizon. $6.9 billion, or 43.6 percent, of those revenues came from data sales. . . . → Read More: Verizon Wireless revenues continue to grow as smartphones reach 50 percent penetration

Qualcomm’s gotten around to reporting its financial results for their fiscal year Q3 2012. They earned 6% less revenue this quarter compared to the one previous, but rose 28% year-over-year. After working through a set of legal disputes with French publishers, Google has made France the fifth European country to gain access to their digital bookstore, following launches in Germany, Spain, Italy, and the UK. Books are available via Google Play, which houses a library numbering in the millions, with many titles available for free as part of the public domain. AT&T will soon offer a shared data package for customers wishing to pair multiple devices with a single data allowance of up to 20GB per month. Dubbed Mobile Share, the package offers subscribers the chance to add up to 10 devices to the same service plan, sharing unlimited talk and text with smartphone plans starting at $45 per month plus data options beginning at $40 for 1GB of access.
